Job Description
Main Purpose: To ensure all lifting tackle, equipment and machinery is inspected and certified as per the legal requirement as described by the OHS Act, regulations, SANS Standards and Company procedures.
Key Performance Areas:
- Ensure daily planning and targets with regards to inspection, service, repair and testing of all types of lifting tackle, equipment and machinery are met.
- Comply with all legal requirements as described in the OHS Act, regulations, SANS standards and Company policies and procedures.
- Assess and verify work done on lifting equipment and machinery according to the check sheet and job cards before signing off.
- Manage data clerk and verify documentation i.e. job cards ensure speedy turnaround of certificates.
- Continuously look for improved methods of testing and streamlining the processes.
- Assess and verify information on certificates and sign before signing off.
- Ensure check sheets and certificates are stored electronically and available on request.
- Ensure continuous development of team through training initiatives.
- Maintain and certification of test equipment for load testing.
- Do “on site” inspections, maintenance, repairs and testing of lifting equipment and machinery.
- Ensure safe working environment, hazard identification and conduct risk assessments.
- Compile quotations for clients to do inspections, repair and testing of lifting equipment and machinery.
- Attend to complaints with regards to lifting tackle, equipment and machinery from internal and external clients.
- Compile of reports on feedback from external and internal clients.
- Maintain sound work relationships with external and internal clients.
- Negotiate with external contractors regarding emergency repair.
- Assess performance of direct reports.
- Facilitate grievance and disciplinary procedure.
- Any other task that is needed from time to time which is reasonable and within the ability of the LMI.

Preferred Requirements:
- Qualified Artisan.
- National Certificate: Lifting Machinery Inspection qualification.
- Registered at the Engineering Council of South Africa as a registered Lifting Machinery Inspector for the categories Lever hoist, chain block, overhead cranes, mobile cranes, forklift, MEWP, Hydraulic industrial lifting devices, vehicle hoist and lifting tackle.
- 5 Years’ relevant experience in a lifting equipment and machinery environment.
- Computer literate (MS Office, Outlook, Word and Excel).
