Job Description
In accordance with the I-14-0039-00 Procedure - Succession Planning, we are inviting INTERNAL applicants who meet the Preferred Requirements to apply.
NOTE that successful application does not guarantee appointment but does allow for development opportunities in preparation for possible consideration.
Main Purpose: To develop and maintain processes to ensure that all equipment/assets at Bethal Depot are maintained according to OEM specifications to maintain the integrity and reliability of the equipment for sites to use safely and to maintain the Bethal Depot yard to comply with Safety standards.
Key Performance Areas:
Equipment maintenance
- Develop a maintenance plan including check lists for all equipment/asset types within responsible area.
- Ensure equipment is maintained according to schedule and inspection check lists.
- Ensure inspection check lists are completed in full and sighed off by relevant parties.
- Ensure that maintenance activities comply with OEM standards, SANS codes and relevant Regulation as stipulated by the OHS Act.
- Prioritise maintenance activities.
- Ensure that certificates are updated and available before equipment is dispatched to equipment store for distribution.
- Liaise with LMI to be present for witnessing load tests where applicable and issue test certificates.
Administration
- Ensure all job cards and inspection check sheets are signed off on completion of tasks/inspections.
- Save job cards/inspection check lists in be under the relevant equipment number for record keeping and history.
- Initiate and assist with asset disposals where applicable.
- Report damaged equipment due to negligence and misuse with the inclusion of pictures.
- Ensure compliance with Company SHE system (weekly Supervisor’s inspections, toolbox and safety talks, communication, etc.
- Administer Employees’ time and attendance and leave requests.
- Any other job-related duties as required from time to time.
Bethal yard
- Oversee loading and offloading of equipment.
- Ensure proper packing and stacking of equipment in relevant laydown areas.
- Weed control in lay down areas and surrounding areas within the boundary of Steinmüller property.
- Road maintenance within the property as well as external when and where required.
- Building maintenance including the maintenance of lawns, palisades and all carports.
People management
- Assess the performance of Employees twice a year and keep record of assessments.
- Develop and update job descriptions for al Employees in the Mechanical department.
- Do succession planning for responsible area.
- Identify training and development needs and recommend appropriate courses.
- Initiate and facilitate grievance and disciplinary procedures.
Safety management
- Conduct weekly and monthly Supervisor’s inspections.
- Do daily toolbox and safety talks.
- Conduct job observations.
- Do task risk assessments.
- Draw up written safe work procedures.
- Report and investigate incidents, unsafe conditions and acts.
- Ensure compliance with the OHS Act including relevant regulations, SANS standards and other relevant procedures and instructions.
Competencies/skills:
- Ability to lead and motivate people.
- Instill good housekeeping.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to take proactive action with regards to housekeeping, weed control and equipment maintenance.
- Ability to promote effective teamwork.
- Ability to handle conflict situations effectively.
Preferred Requirements:
- Qualified Artisan (Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical).
- 5 Years’ working experience as a supervisor with relevant supervisory training.
- Experience in the use of maintenance of different type of equipment used in the Maintenance Engineering field.
- Knowledge of the OHS Act, relevant regulations and safety standards (risk assessments, safe work procedures and housekeeping practices).
- Valid driver’s license.
- Computer literate (MS Office).
